Name: Topher (aka Christopher Thomas)
Date of Birth : 08/09/80
Occupation: User Experience Designer at Ritani.com
CrossFitting Since: September 2011
First CrossFit Experience: I started at a CrossFit gym in Roosevelt. In hindsight, the coaches weren’t great at focusing on proper form and safety, but my 1-month stint there introduced me to the rewarding challenge of CrossFit, the Paleo diet, and my own impressive lack of physical fitness. I love a challenge and I was hooked immediately.
Favorite CrossFit WOD: Recently I’ve been enjoying Grace, before that was Jackie, and before that was Kelly. (I’m kind of a womanizer.) And I love-hate the Filthy Fifty when it comes around.
Favorite Lift: Front Squat, the counterpart to my greatest nemesis, the back squat.
Least Favorite WOD: Anything with Thrusters. Maybe Fran, but I wouldn’t know because I’ve successfully avoided it for 2 years.
Favorite CrossFit Moment: Favorite because they’re easy: AbMat sit-ups. Favorite because they’re hard: handstand push-ups.
Why do you CrossFit: I love challenging myself. I’ve never been an athlete and it’s exciting to do things I never thought I would be able to do (double-unders, pull-ups, handstand push-ups, lifting really heavy weights and surviving). I’m also in the best shape of my life, which feels good to say in your 30s.
Cheat Meal of choice: Top Pot doughnuts – they are my biggest food weakness by far. I also crave pizza, whiskey, and a good Monte Cristo sandwich.
CrossFit Secret: CrossFit scares the crap out of me – literally.
What do you do on your days off: I play music. I’ve been a drummer my whole life, but I also play guitar, sing, and make music on a Game Boy. I’m in 2 bands: Encourager and Teen Arts – I’m a lifer when it comes to playing in bands.
Can’t leave home without: Hoodie, phone, earbuds.
Dream vacation spot: Japan and Hawaii are next on my list.
