Name: Gretchen Boehm

DOB: 05/12/1971

Occupation: Ryan’s mom and part-time admissions coordinator at The Bush School (Jason’s alma mater, and where Ryan will be in 2nd grade this fall)

CrossFitting Since: 6 weeks after Ryan’s birth — August 2009

First Memorable CrossFit Experience: I remember doing Murph for the first time in 2011, when we lived in Miami. I thought it was IMPOSSIBLE to do that many movements. Now, it is one of my favorite workouts and I look forward to it every year.

Favorite WOD: I love a good 20 minute AMRAP — Mary is one of my favorites! I love the rep scheme in this WOD: the quick five HSPUs, 10 pistols and even though I am not great at pull-ups, I know I can get through 15.

Favorite Lift: Deadlift and front squat. Learning to love the Olympic lifts.

Least Favorite WOD: Karen — I dread wall balls! I would rather do burpees!

Favorite CrossFit Moment: I have two! First, when we lived in Miami, our gym hosted Barbells for Boobs. It was such a fun community-building event, and I the first time I did Grace RX. I also got to take a family photo with my CrossFit crush at the time — Graham Holmberg. Second, is competing in two Olympic lifting meets. I hate being the center of attention so standing in front of the judges is nerve-racking! But I am proud of myself for trying something new, and going 6 for 6 in my last competition.

Why You Do CrossFit: So I can prance around in short shorts! Seriously, I love the community and the friends I have made. I love the “constantly varied” programming and the fact that even as I am getting older, I am getting fitter and hitting PRs. Also, I feel it is super important to be a good role model for my daughter, being fit and strong = healthy!

Favorite Cheat Meal: Pizza or pasta

CrossFit Secret: Go to the gym even if you don’t feel like it! I sometimes have the best workouts on days when I am feeling down, or tired. The noon crew keeps me motivated! It is also awesome to CrossFit with your spouse. I love comparing workout notes with Jason and he is the best “at home” WOD programmer!

What Do You Do On Rest Days: I have difficulty doing nothing, so I may go for an easy run, swim, or a long walk with the family.

What Can’t You Live Without: Ryan and Jason

Favorite Vacation Spot: Tofino, BC and Jackson Hole
