Name: Brendan Schenk

DOB: November 27

Occupation: Sr. Software Manager, Digital Technology (Holland America Group)

CrossFitting Since: December 2016

First Memorable CrossFit Experience: Taking part in my first CrossFit Open (2017) and the motivating atmosphere from my fellow athletes. I still remember that experience so vividly and I had butterflies in my stomach leading up to 17.1 – it was like I was back in school getting ready for a competition or something. Even though I had been going to a regular gym doing “bro stuff” (as Eve would say) prior to joining Crossfit, the Crossfit open was one of my most humbling experiences. It challenged me in so many ways – from realizing what my weaknesses were, to shifting my mindset and remaining focused, in order to get the workout done.

Favorite WOD: Anything that has toe-to-bars, push ups, or pull ups!

Favorite Lift: Push Press or anything to do with shoulders.

Least Favorite WOD: Open WOD18.4. I underestimated the number of handstand push-ups I could do RX after completing 21 deadlifts.

Favorite CrossFit Moment: It would definitely be the moment that I got my first ring muscle-up. There was something that Nadia said to
me one day while practicing transitions that just clicked. Without realizing her and Eric were watching, I gave it a whirl, and bam – I did
it! It was a pretty exciting moment.

Why You Do CrossFit: CrossFit has changed my life in so many positive ways. I do it for the people, the community, and enjoy surrounding myself with like-minded individuals who choose to live a healthy, athletic lifestyle.

Favorite Cheat Meal: Definitely a Smoke Shack Burger from Shake Shack. And…. I cannot not mention my weakness for “Biltong” (think
beef jerky, but 1000 times better and from South Africa), Siete Tortilla chips (Fuego flavor) and dip.

CrossFit Secret: Listening to the advice from the coaches. There are endless nuggets that I have got from each one of their coaching
sessions that have allowed me to improve my workouts / strengthen up my weaknesses.

What Do You Do On Rest Days: Take long naps, and try to find ways to become a billionaire.

What Can’t You Live Without: My family – Jeff, Monty, Candi, Vanessa, and rest of my family back in South Africa.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Having visited all 7 continents, over 70 countries, and 280 different cities, I still love Vegas and Hawaii. I am
sure that will soon change once we visit Bora Bora! 🙂
